I first heard of the Romance Through The Ages contest a few years ago. I had already been a member of Romance Writers of America for several years when I came across it. The contest is sponsored by the Hearts Through History chapter of RWA and is only for historical romance. Last year I missed the deadline as my first novel, Tangled Up In You, was off getting an initial editing pass. I signed up to judge, though, and learned loads from the experience.
This year, when the deadline for the RTTA came around, Tangled Up In You was ready. I was looking for some great feedback. Romance novels set in the post-colonial, pre-Civil-War era of the US aren’t a huge category on the bookstore shelves so the biggest benefit to entering a contest was getting an understanding of how Tangled Up In You would be received by romance readers (and in the case of the RTTA judges, by romance writers).
Tangled Up In You scored big! It’s an RTTA finalist.
Plus I received some tremendous feedback. Now it heads to the professional judges with the winners announced July 26th. No pressure, right?
